AVIANS
Ponti's vets see a variety of birds:
Macaws African Grays
Medium size parrots Cockatoos
Amazons
and the smaller pet birds:
Quakers Parakeets
Cockatiels Canaries
and a few unusual pets like chickens, ducks and geese. We have also treated the occasional rhea and emu! And, yes, chickens are pets.
Ponti Veterinary Hospital recommends:
Yearly physical exams for your pet bird
Nail, beak and wing trims as needed
Nutritional consult
Baseline blood work
DNA sexing, which is optional
Some common symptoms that indicate possible illness are:
Keeping to the bottom of the cage
Sitting with his feathers fluffed up, eyes half closed, appears cold
Not perching upright
Decrease in normal activity, reluctant to play, sing or talk
Droppings are very loose
If your bird is exhibiting behaviors that are not, in your opinion, normal or you have questions or concerns relating to care, you should make an appointment with the veterinarian.
